Ms. Lunar was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. Through her education in LAUSD schools she did not have the support she needed from her teachers and resources in order to succeed. At home, despite everything else, the fact that she would pursue higher education was a given. Not only did her parents impress the importance of education on her from an early age, she was also fortunate enough to receive powerful encouragement and mentorship from her high school teachers. When she enrolled into a charter high school, education for her became something beautiful. The individual who would prove vital to inspire Ms. Lunar into a career in education was her high school social science instructor. He helped her overcome dilemmas she faced in high school, and also under his mentorship, she began to garner that passion for education and social justice that she now has. Ms. Lunar’s teachers and mentors taught her about herself and opened her eyes to the rest of the world around her. Ms. Lunar was the first from her family to attend college. She attended the University of California, Riverside where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Spanish. After Ms. Lunar earned her bachelor's degree she joined City Year, a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the dropout crisis. During her two years working with this organization, Ms. Lunar's experiences with youth demonstrated that despite their circumstances her students were able to succeed in their academics. Ms. Lunar will return to school, National University, to obtain her Masters in Education and Multiple Subjects credential to teach at an elementary level. Ms. Lunar is very excited to return to Equitas #3 as the Art Enrichment teacher because she wants her scholars to become passionate about their artwork and to create things that they never thought possible that will ignite their future. She strongly believes in Equitas' mission, because education should empower a child and help him or her make a positive contribution to our world. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Ms. Lunar loves taking her dog on hikes and enjoys coaching her younger sister in softball and volleyball during the weekends!
