Joanna Montgomery received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from University of California, Irvine in 2008. Mrs. Montgomery went on to obtain her Master’s Degree in Education from Pepperdine University. During her time at Pepperdine University, Mrs. Montgomery joined a cohort called UPTEC and worked in an elementary school in South Gate where she was involved in the education of culturally diverse and low-income students. In Mrs. Montgomery’s 9 years working in education, she has learned the most from working as a middle school teacher and teacher leader at KIPP Academy of Opportunity, located in Los Angeles. During Mrs. Montgomery’s time in education, she took a break from teaching to own and operate a small gym - only to recognize that working with children is really where her passion lies. There is nothing more rewarding than to see a child’s eyes light up from something they are experiencing, learning, and engaging in.

 

In her free time, Mrs. Montgomery enjoys being active, being outdoors when it’s sunny, and spending quality time with her family. Mrs. Montgomery speaks two dialects of Chinese, has been married to Michael for 8 years, and has a 4-year old daughter named Olivia.
